BACKGROUND
Safe Steps was founded by a group of passionate individuals with diverse backgrounds in healthcare, education, gender studies, and environmental science. Their shared vision was to address the interconnected challenges facing communities in rural Uganda. Initially, they focused on raising awareness about non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promoting preventive health measures in underserved regions.
As Safe Steps gained traction, they expanded their scope to include education initiatives. They launched early childhood development programs in partnership with local schools and communities, aiming to improve access to quality education and lay a strong foundation for children’s future success.
Recognizing the vital role of women and girls in community development, Safe Steps initiated empowerment programs focused on poverty alleviation and financial literacy. They provided training workshops and microfinance support to women entrepreneurs, enabling them to start businesses and become agents of change in their communities.
In response to the growing threat of climate change, Safe Steps integrated environmental sustainability into its mission. They launched projects to promote adaptation and resilience in vulnerable areas, such as planting trees to combat deforestation and implementing clean energy solutions to reduce carbon emissions.
